India's Border Security Force (BSF) has apologised for intruding into Bangladesh and attacking villagers on Satkhira border, reports bdnews24.com.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said the incident took place at Madra border in Kalaroa upazila Friday morning.
Tension ran high in the area after the incident.
BGB's Madra Company Commander Subedar Abdur Rab told reporters that several members of BSF's Hakimpur camp trespassed into the Bangladesh side of the Sonai River by a speedboat and a country boat amid heavy rainfall.
Two BSF men armed with weapons stepped into Bangladesh territory and chased the villagers 'without any reason'.
The villagers locked into a scuffle with them. A few villagers suffered minor injuries during the skirmish.
The BSF personnel left the scene after BGB members intervened. Subedar Rab said one of the BSF men left behind his SLR with 20 rounds of bullet.
They also left the country boat, he said. A flag meeting was held between BGB and BSF at Kalibarhi Primary School in Madra around 3:00 pm, he said.
Acting Commander of 38 Battalion Major Nazir Ahmed Bakshi led the Bangladesh team while Indian team was headed by BSF's 152 Battalion Commandant Rajesh Kumar.
At the meeting, the BSF "offered apology to the BGB for the transgression" and seized weapon and boat were returned, he said.
