A Bangladeshi man was beaten to death allegedly by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel at Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga district on Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as Hasibur Rahman, 30, son of Mustabir, a resident of Munsipur village. Witnesses said a group of troops of the 113 BSF battalion from Mohakhola camp under Chhapra thana in Nadia district of India, chased off Hasibul and caught him near the Main Pillar No. 93 at Munsipur border point when he along with six other cattle traders went there at about 8:30 pm. Hasibul’s four associates went missing during the incident while two others, who managed to flee, returned home later safely. The returnees said BSF troops had beaten up Hasibul with rifle butt, leaving him dead on the spot. However, Lieutenant Colonel SM Maniruzzaman, director of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion-6, said the BSF troops from Mohakhola camp caught Hasibul, but he could not confirm whether he (Hasibul) was killed by the Indian border force, according to UNB.
