BSF reassures BDR to reduce killings along border

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) chief Raman Srivastava Monday reassured Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) that steps would be taken to minimise incidents of killing along Indo-Bangladesh border, reports UNB.
"We are trying our best to minimise the problems without loss of lives," he told a press briefing at the end of a six-day BDR-BSF border conference at BDR Headquarters.
Asked about the killing of innocent Bangladeshi civilians along the border, Srivastava said, "It should not be called 'killing', better term it death."
Indirectly defending the killing of Bangladeshi nationals, the BSF Director General claimed "all these people are dying inside the Indian territory not in Bangladesh territory."
He said these people trespass the border by cutting the border fence or by other means at dead of night with certain intentions like smuggling.
Recognising Bangladesh's concern about the killing, Srivastava said almost half of the dead are "Indian criminals." "We've no desire to kill the people. We're doing our best to reduce such incidents," he said.
