BSF stops fencing on Maheshpur border following tension

Monday, 16 July 2007

JHENIDAH, July 15: Tension heightened on Jaluli border of Maheshpur Upazila Sunday as Indian BSF members insisted on raising barbed wire fence within 150 yards of the zero line violating the international law. BDR strongly opposed the BSF move when they started fencing at about 11:00 am. Both sides mobilised additional troops and guns heightening tension in the area. Later, an informal meeting was held at company commander level where BSF agreed to remove the fencing materials from the Indian village of Ranghat. —UNB
