BSFF organises workshop on role of shrimp industry

Bangladesh Shrimp and Fish Foundation (BSFF), Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exporters' Association and Department of Fisheries jointly organised a workshop titled 'Crucial Economic Role of the Shrimp Industry' for economic journalists in the city recently.
Chairman of BSFF Syed Mahmudul Huq presided over the workshop.
Secretary to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Syed Ataur Rahman, Charge d'Affaires and Acting Chief of the European Commission Delegation in Bangladesh Brian Forey attended the function as special guests and spoke on the occasion.
President of Economic Reporters' Forum Zakaria Kajal attended the function as the guest of honour.
The aim of the workshop was to apprise the country's economic reporters of the crucial economic role of the shrimp industry, particularly its export and employment potentials, the recently-introduced EU non-tariff trade conditions and the significance of non-compliance with the imposed conditions.
BSFF Executive Director Mahmudul Karim made a presentation highlighting the salient features of the EU non-tariff trade rules and the efforts being made to satisfy the international market demand.
The inaugural session was followed by a technical session.
Chairman of Bureau of Economic Research of Dhaka University MA Taslim made a presentation on the impact of non-tariff trade conditions on external trade.
A lively and interactive discussion between the reporters and a panel of experts also took place.
