BSFIC takes step to raise sugarcane yield

Wednesday, 4 March 2009

Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) failed to achieve the sugar production target in 2008-09 fiscal due to short supply of sugarcane.

In this context, newly appointed BSFIC Chairman Apurba Kumar Biswas has taken progressive action on sugarcane development in fifteen sugar mills zones for 2009-10 production year.

He transferred all the agriculture officers from Dhaka head office to the mills on deputation to supervise production. They will ensure the proper adoption of technology to increase the yield of sugarcane and to resist pest and diseases applying insecticides, pesticides, fertiliser for good management of sugarcane production.

Corporation authority expects that applying the agro-technology in the cane fields, will ensure the target of sugar production in coming fiscal year.
