BSMMU set to launch cancer centre: VC

The BSMMU is set to launch a dedicated cancer treatment centre after the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, its Vice chancellor (VC) Dr Sharfuddin Ahmed has said.
The world class centre will facilitate treatment of the deadly disease and research activities, he told an event in Japan, according to a statement issued here on Wednesday.
The Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) VC is now visiting Japan to join several medical conferences on oncology research and treatment.
As a first Bangladeshi physician and researcher, Mr Ahmed was honoured to deliver a lecture at the famous National Cancer Centre (NCC) in Tokyo, Japan.
The VC joined a roundtable following the lecture, where he talked about the proposed dedicated cancer centre and sought cooperation from the Japanese counterparts.
The participants also agreed to publish research articles through experience sharing. The head of NCC's Division of Prevention Dr Manami Inoue and Head of International Health Policy Research Tamohiro Matsuda joined the discussion among others.
At another discussion with NCC Hospital, its Director Dr Kenichi Nakamura drew Mr Ahmed's attention to the 'Asian Clinical Trials Network for Cancer Project' for conducting research and running clinical trials.
Mr Ahmed laid emphasis on international training for the Bangladeshi doctors and long-term research plan, the statement added.
