Bangladesh Supermarket Owners' Association (BSOA) President Niaz Rahim has underscored the need for enhancing quality of service of the supermarkets, says a press release.
He said: "Supermarkets have to march forward with much more confidence to fulfil the commitment we had made before launching of this business to offer quality products at fair price and accurate weight and in hygienic environment."
Niaz Rahim, managing director of country's first and largest chain supermarket Agora, was speaking at a Eid-reunion organised by BSOA on Saturday (November 3) at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.
Within a few years of beginning of the business, supermarket culture has been very popular, he said adding that trust and dependence of consumers on supermarkets are enhancing day by day.
The function was also address by association general secretary Md Zakir Hossain (managing director of Ocean Shopping Mall), joint general secretary Group Captain (retd) Md Salimullah Selim (chairman of Best Bay Supermarket), executive committee members Kazi Inam Ahmed (director of Meena Bazar), Abdus Salek (managing director of Family Needs), Safiqul Alam Jewel (CEO of Wallmart, Chittagong) and Alhaj Md Ruhul Amin (managing director of Prince Bazar), and Numayer Alam of British American Tobacco Company, the sponsor of the event.
Speakers said the supermarkets have brought in a great change in country's conventional bazar system. They said the buyers are happy with the service of the supermarkets, which are offering a very wide range of quality products under a single roof at fixed prices and in hygienic environment.
They further said the consumers' trust on the supermarket regarding prices is also getting up. They pointed out that supermarkets sold liquid milk at taka 36 a litre during the holy month of Ramadan and Eid whereas the product was sold at over taka 60 in conventional market and retail shops.
