BSTI drives fine Tk 37.8m in 11 months

Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) realised Tk 37.8 million in fine from business firms through conducting 928 mobile courts across the country in the current fiscal year till May 30 for adulteration of food items. Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu revealed the statistic while replying to a starred question from Shamsul Haque Chowdhury (Chittagong-11) in the Jatiya Sangsad (parliament) last evening. A total of 1,486 cases were filed against the business firms, while the courts sentenced 28 people to various jail terms, he told the House. Besides, 696 surveillance teams raided various markets and filed 404 regular cases and realised Tk 142,000 in fine from July 2013 to May this year, the minister said, according to a news agency.
