BTA, BTESA ink deal

A bilateral agreement between Bangladesh Tea Association (BTA)-Bangladeshiyo Cha Sangsad (BCS)-the representative body of tea estates of Bangladesh, and the Bangladesh Tea Estate Staff Association (BTESA) was signed in the city recently.
The deal is effective for two years from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2015.
Chairman of the BTA Ardashir Kabir and President of the BTESA Iqbal Choudhury signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organistions, said a press release.
Under the deal, the basic salary scales of the members of BTESA including drivers were increased by 18.52 per cent.
The basic salary scales of both junior and senior drivers were also increased at the above rate.
Under the agreement, the members of the BTESA and the monthly rated drivers were also given other monetary benefits.
Among others, Senior Vice Chairman of the BTA M Shah Alam, Vice-Chairman Kamran T Rahman, Central Committee Member and Convener M Nurul Alam, Committee Members HSM Ziaul Ahsan, Tahsin Ahmed Choudhury, and SN Taher and Member (Labour Sub-Committee) Syed Mohiuddin and Anis-Uzzaman and General Secretary of the BTESA Md Jakaria Ahmed were present at the agreement signing ceremony.
At the signing ceremony, both the sides expressed their hope that the financial benefits as offered in the agreement would help in ensuring improvement as well as overall development of the industry.
