BTCL earns Tk 4.35b in five months of this fiscal

The government owned Bangladesh Telecommunication Company Limited (BTCL) has earned about Tk 4.35 billion during five months of the current fiscal from July-November, reports BSS. "The amount was earned by the company through providing smooth land telephone service, Internet, overseas telecommunications and other issues," Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad told Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Sunday replying to a question placed by lawmaker Nurun Nabi Chowdhury in absence of Telecommunication Minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju. He told the House that a massive development work in telecommunication sector was going on and projects had been taken up for setting up digital exchanges in upazila and growth centres, communications network development, Internet information expansion, setting up of NGN-based telecommunication network for digital Bangladesh, wireless broadband, rehabilitation of old telephones of Dhaka City and setting up of optical fibre cables in 2008 unions. Replying to a supplementary question of the lawmaker, the minister said that all the upazila exchanges in Bhola district had almost double capacity against the present subscribers.
