BTCL introduces new products, lower charges

In a major move, the Bangladesh Telecom Company Limited (BTCL), formerly Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB), decided to introduce 'toll free' telephone calls to facilitate business.
Once operational, people calling the toll free numbers will not have to pay for their calls. The subscriber of the toll free numbers will be footing the bills to BTCL.
The toll free numbers are expected to be subscribed mostly by multinational companies and service providers.
The board of directors of the BTCL took this decision to launch the new product at its fourth meeting held Thursday.
Besides, it also re-fixed charges relating to telephone shifting, changes in clients names, Wireless Local Loop (WLL) connection fee and Integrated Service Digital Network (ISDN) with video conferencing facilities.
The telephone shifting charges will now be Tk 500 instead of Tk 1000 in Dhaka, Tk 300 instead of Tk 1000 in Chittagong and Tk 300 instead Tk 500 in Upazila.
The BTCL also lowered the charges for changes in clients names. It will now be at Tk 500 against Tk 1000 in Dhaka, Tk 300 against Tk 1000 in Chittagong, Tk 300 against Tk 500 in other districts and Tk 100 against Tk 300 in each Upazila.
The WLL connection fee has been set at Tk 1500 which was earlier Tk 5100.
The ISDN charges has been fixed at Tk 15, 920 in place of earlier charges of Tk 30,000
The new charges will be applicable from October 2008, said a press release issued by BTCL.
