BTCL opens control room for JS polls

The state-owned Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL), has opened a 'Central Control Room' at its Telejogajog Bhaban in the city in order to ensure smooth and uninterrupted telecommunications network across the country before and after the ninth parliamentary elections including the polling day.
According to sources in the BTCL, the control room started functioning from Sunday and it will remain open until December 30. Necessary steps have been taken by the BTCL so that telecommunications are not hampered throughout the country during the national election.
Besides, the BTCL officers and employees in the control room will always maintain contact with the Election Commission during period. They are also assigned to co-ordinate their activities with other relevant offices along with the Election Commission regarding polls till Tuesday.
Sources said, director of BTCL Mohammad Shahidul Alam has been made operational in-charge of the control room.
In the control room, a total of 34 officials and employees will discharge their duty.
A senior BTCL official told FE, during the polls, especially parliamentary elections, the country's telecommunications network remains so busy that it suffers from abnormal pressure of polls-related telecommunications. In such situation, unexpected incidents might take place any time any where due to technical problems, causing disruption to the network. So, the central control room was set up as a precautionary measure to prevent such technical and other problems.
