BTMA Tk 5.10m donation for families of slain army officers

Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) Wedn esday donated Tk 5.10 million (51 lakh) for the welfare of the families of the martyred army officers killed in the February 25-26 Pilkhana carnage, reports UNB.
A 37-member delegation of BTMA led by its President Abdul Hye Sarker called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister's Office in the morning and handed her a cheque for the charity.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister was apprised of the problems and prospects of the textile sector through a power-point presentation.
The BTMA leaders urged the Premier to take effective steps to protect the country's economy from any negative impact of the current economic recession.
The Prime Minister assured the BTMA delegation, saying that the government has already formed a high-level taskforce to monitor the situation and take necessary remedial steps against any possible negative impact of the economic downturn.
Hasina sought cooperation of the industrialists and businessmen in facing any challenge in the country's economic sector.
"You (businessmen) should also have the mentality of sacrifice," she said.
Hasina said the government will provide all possible assistance for the development of the country's textile sector.
