Telecom regulatory body has extended the deadline for submission of proposals for licence of submarine cable system and services. The revised deadline for submission of the proposal is 13 June, 2011. Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) issued a notice on its website recently where it mentioned that all terms and conditions will remain unchanged. The commission will issue maximum two licences for the work under the International Long Distance Telecommunication Policy, 2010. In March, the commission invited bids from eligible Bangladeshi entities for the work with some conditions. Only Bangladeshi entities having adequate financial, technical and organisational capability to serve in the field will be eligible, according to the notice. It says that the companies shall have to be registered with Joint Stock Companies and Firms and concerned trade bodies. Bangladesh was first connected with an undersea cable in 2005. But since its launch, the cable suffered frequent cuts in Cox's Bazar area.
