BTRC issues 2 NIX licenses

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has awarded two National Internet Exchange (NIX) licenses for the first time to route domestic internet traffic. BTRC chairman Sunil Kanti Bose handed over the licenses to Bangladesh Internet Exchange Trust (BDIX) and Novocom Wednesday at BTRC, said a press release. Syed Moinul Haque, managing director of Novocom and Dr M Asaduzzaman General, secretary of BDIX, received the licenses. The NIX will facilitate local content development, encourage local web hosting and reduce latency in domestic traffic and thereby saving international bandwidth and foreign currency, according to a news agency.
