Sunday, 23 June 2024

FE Report
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has issued a draft unified guideline for use, listing, marketing and import of radio equipment for simplifying the license process.
Issued recently, the draft will be finalised after consultation with stakeholders.
People and stakeholders are invited to submit recommendations and suggestions for the draft guideline by June 30, according to the BTRC.
According to the draft guideline, there were several types of licenses under different guidelines and directions including Bangladesh IoT Device Import Directive, Instruction for providing Service Through 2.4 & 5.7 GHz Band in Bangladesh, Radio Equipment Importer for radio equipment.
The relevant guidelines were formulated earlier by the commission for the import, use and marketing of various types of radio devices such as transceivers, walkie-talkies, routers, IoT devices, mobile handsets, broadcasting equipment, etc.
There are also different types of enlistment fees mentioned in the different guidelines according to the type of service and commercial operation of the business.
As there are different guidelines according to the type of wireless and radio device, various complications had to be faced by the service provider concerned in applying to the Commission properly as per the guidelines.
The BTRC said illegal use of wireless and devices is on the rise due to lack of awareness among users of wireless devices.
With the aim of simplifying all these complications, a unified guideline has been prepared by integrating the guidelines made by the commission and at the same time the previous guidelines will be deemed ineffective from the date of issuance of this guideline," said the draft.
The draft said that all related licenses are required to take update licenses previously taken after the final approval of these guidelines.
However, those licenses required radio and wireless equipment import and use under their licenses requirements do not need new license under this guideline.
Individual users also do not need license if they use only for themselves.
The radio equipment's license tenure will be two years.
