BTRC sits today to decide fate of unregistered users

The country's telecom regulatory body is sitting today (Sunday) to determine the fate of those SIM cards that were disconnected due to non-completion of re-registration before the deadline expired, a senior official said Saturday.
The deadline for re-registration of the SIM cards expired Saturday midnight.
"The mobile phone users, who failed to sign up by the deadline, will face disconnection, starting from Saturday midnight," Md Rezaul Quader, director (systems and services) of Bangladesh Telecommu-nication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), told the FE Saturday night.
However, he said, "We will hold a meeting Sunday to decide the next course of action after the deadline is expired."
The regulatory body will discus today whether it will extend the deadline for a further period or allow the mobile phone operators to resume connection of those disconnected SIM cards after re-registration by their users.
The officials said the BTRC is contemplating whether or not it will allow resuming disconnected SIM cards after the mobile operators submitted a letter to the regulatory body last week seeking permission to allow them issue reconnection to the disconnected SIM cards after completion of re-registration.
