BTRC warns of legal action against telcos sans licence

The telecom regulator has warned of legal action against the companies, which are providing telecommunication-related service without licence from the authorities.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) said according to the telecommunication rules, such illegal service providers might be subjected to jail terms and penalities as well.
"We have found that some companies are doing telecom-related business like internet without accreditation," the regulator said in a notice, adding that according the existing rules, the service providers would get 10 years imprisonment along with Tk 30 million in fine.
The recent notice signed by Director, legal and licensing division of the BTRC MA Taleb Hossain said the authorities have also identified some infrastructure and equipment of such service providers in the country, which is legally punishable.
BTRC urged the dishonest people to fold their illegal telecom business up immediately otherwise, the watchdog will take necessary action as per the existing rules and regulations.
"To ensure business interests of the authorised operators and control over the sector, the regulator will take tough action soon," it warned and called upon the stakeholders also to resist such business from the individual level.
