Bangladesh Telecommuni-cation Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has proposed a maximum fine of Tk 5.0 billion (500 crore) for breach of terms and conditions of licence, reports UNB.
The proposal was made in the draft amendment to the existing Bangladesh Telecommunications Act (BTA). 'The draft has been sent to the ministry,' said BTRC chairman Manzurul Alam.
The BTRC provided the Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB) five different types of licences to operate its five different programmes.
The licences were given for International Gate Way (IGW), Inter Connection Exchange (ICX), International Internet Gateway (IIG), Nation Wide Internet Service Provider (NWISP) and Domestic Data Communication Service Provider (DDCSP).
"In some cases the rate of fine will be Tk 100 crore and in some cases it'll be Tk 300 crore… But the highest amount of fine is Tk 500 crore," Manzurul told journalists.
