BTUS demands release of its leaders

Tuesday, 8 July 2014

Bangladesh Trade Union Sangha (BTUS) on Tuesday demanded unconditional release of its leaders arrested in Sylhet. At a meeting at its office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital, the association leaders claimed that its central leader Rupok Das and Sylhet unit leader Nurul Islam Mokbul were arrested on ‘false’ grounds in Sylhet on July 4. The two leaders were arrested as the tea estate authorities as well as the local administration are trying to thwart the movement for increasing the wages of tea workers, they claimed. The meeting was presided over by Bangladesh Trade Union Sangha president Khalilur Rahman, according to a news agency.
