Buddhist leader Prof Shilobroton Chy passes away

Eminent Buddhist leader Prof Shilobroto Chowdhury died of cardiac arrest in the city's BIRDEM Hospital Saturday. He was 73, reports BSS.
Former president of Bangladesh Bouddha Yubo Parishad central committee, Chowdhury left behind two daughters, a large number of professional colleagues, students and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
Prof Shilobroto was a teacher-cum-librarian at Dhaka Residential Model College for more than three decades.
The eldest son of celebrated journalist and prolific writer Bishweshwar Chowdhury, late Shilobroto was actively involved in part-time journalism in a number of the newspapers and news agencies during 1960s.
Shilobroto, a former vice-president of Buddhist SAARC forum, contributed immensely to the development and welfare of the disadvantageous people of the Buddhist community.
The book "Samdura Safen" (soapy sea), written by Shilobroto, earned fame for him and was widely read and circulated across the country.
His body was kept at Kamalapur Dharmarajika Buddhist Monastery and International Buddhist Monastery at Merul Badda for some time to pay homage to the Buddhist leader.
Meanwhile, scores of Buddhist organisations and individuals in separate messages condoled the death of Chowdhury.
They said the death of such a Buddhist leader is an irreparable loss for the nation.
