Sunday, 18 May 2014

Two cousins, including a student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), drowned in the Bangali River in Sariakandi upazila of Bogra district on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Rifat, 23, a first year student of Buet and son of Manik of Comilla district, and his cousin (son of mother’s sister) Taj, 21, a Class-XI student of a college in the capital and son of Majed Pramanik of Sherpur upazila in Bogra. Police and locals said Rifat and Taj along with their several friends came to visit their ailing grandmother at Bhelabari village in the Sariakandi upazila. Five of them, including Rifat and Taj, went to the Bangali River to take their bath at noon. At one stage, Taj was washed away by strong waves. As Rifat, Riza, Sama and Babu came in the rescue of Taj, they were also washed away. Later, locals rescued the five and rushed them to a local clinic from where Rifat and Taj were shifted to a private clinic in the district town. The duo, however, died at the clinic at about 4:30pm, according to a news agency.
