BUET team visits GPH plant

CHATTOGRAM, Apr 06: A delegation of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) visited the GPH Ispat Limited plant in Sitakunda near the port city on Tuesday.
BUET Professor Dr Fahmida Gulshan led the delegation.
GPH Group Chairman and Managing Director Mohammed Jahangir Alam and Additional Managing Director Almas Shimul welcomed the delegation members at the factory and held a meeting with them.
Addressing the meeting, Jahangir Alam said the GPH uses German technology, which is first in Asia and the second in the world. The power consumption by GPH is more than 50 per cent lower than induction furnace and 30 per cent lower than traditional EAF, he added.
He also said that GPH has no gas-based reheating furnace used in the rolling process and ensures the highest quality of its products.
The mill can produce up to Class 3 grade product, ensuring up to 790 MPA by quenching and Class 4 grade product, ensuring a maximum of 980 MPA by micro-alloying, he added.
Prof Dr Fahmida appreciated the quality of GPH products saying: "GPH is playing an important role in the country's economy."
During the visit, members of the delegation went round different section of the factory and saw firsthand the production system.
