Build up a bright future for our school children
Sunday, 10 January 2010
WE feel worried, shocked and concerned that the standard of education -- general knowledge, language skills, specially of English and knowhow of mathematics -- among our secondary school boys and girls is so deplorable.
Many of them cannot even read their Bangla textbooks correctly and smoothly and while writing or spelling simple and easy Bangla words, they make mistakes. Their English is very weak and poor. Some of them are found to get by heart the questions and answers of even mathematics! Their general knowledge and information about our own country cannot be appreciated. They fail to tell the names of our neighbouring countries and are unaware of the history of Islam, Muslim rule in Bangladesh and our hard-earned independence.
Would our Ministry of Education kindly look into the matter and ensure building up a bright future for our school boys and girls?
May we humbly suggest that our respectable and learned school teachers kindly pay more attention to regular routine classes rather than be pre-occupied with special coaching classes in schools? They demand exorbitant tuition fees from the students, which must be totally stopped, and banned, by our people's elected government.
