Bullet-hit Khulna AL leader dies

KHULNA, Nov 2 (UNB): A local leader of ruling Awami League (AL), who was wounded in a gun-attack by miscreants in the city Sunday, died at a hospital in the capital early Wednesday. Gazi Abdul Halim, publicity secretary of Khulna District AL, succumbed to his injuries at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) at 12:24am. Halim, also chairman of Senhati union parishad in Digholia Upazila of the district, and his associate Nuru Gazi sustained bullet injuries as some 56 unknown criminals sprayed bullets on them near Natkhati culvert in Sugandha village of the upazila at about 3:00pm Sunday. The injured were rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital from where Halim was shifted to Jessore Combined Military Hospital in critical condition. Halim was then sent to BSMMU by a helicopter Monday.
