Bullet-hit \\\'mugger\\\' dies in city

Suspected mugger Javed, who sustained bullet injuries in firing by police in the city’s Pallabi area on January 24, succumbed to his wounds at National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor), popularly known as Pangu Hospital, on Tuesday night. Police arrested injured Javed, alias Khella Javed, alias Karmi Javed, 25, belonging to a gang of muggers from Ceramic Road of Mirpur-12 near Teker Bari on Jan 24 morning. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital at about 11:30 pm, said Officer-in-Charge of Pallabi police station Zia uz Zaman. Three police teams were patrolling the Ceramic Road on foot at about 6:00 am on Jan 24 early morning. Suddenly, a gang of muggers swooped on the cops by mistake, taking the law enforcers for pedestrians due to the obscure visibility in foggy weather. When they came very close, they found it to be police and charged several crude bombs. Police fired several shots that wounded Javed while his associates managed to escape. Javed was admitted to Pangu Hospital, according to UNB.
