Bullets came from Rony\\\'s gun: Police

Police on Friday confirmed that the bullets which left two people dead in the city’s New Eskaton area on April 13 were fired from the gun of Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of Awami League MP Pinu Khan.
At a press briefing, Monirul Islam, joint commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said that they received the ballistic report from CID on Thursday which showed that the bullets found in the victims’ bodies and that of Rony’s pistol were same.
“We are now certain that the bullets were fired from Rony’s gun”, Monirul Islam told a news agency.
On April 13 midnight, Bakhtiar Alam Rony reportedly opened fire on people indiscriminately near Janakantha Bhaban in New Eskaton area from the his jeep, leaving Abdul Hakim and Janakantha’s auto-rickshaw driver Yakub injured.
They later succumbed to their injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 15 and April 23 respectively. Monwara Begum, the mother of Hakim, filed a murder case with Ramna Police Station in connection with the incident.
Later, the case was transferred to the DB police and DB sub-inspector (SI) Dipak Kumar Saha made investigation officer (IO) of the double murder case.
The DB has already seized the jeep, which was used by Rony on the night of the incident.
Rony was arrested following the confessional statement of his driver Imran early on June 1 from his Dhanmondi residence. Now, he is in Dhaka Central jail.
