Bumper Aman yield in Khulna likely

KHULNA, Nov 22: A bumper production of Aman is expected in ten districts of Khulna division during the current season, there is no natural disaster within next one week.
According to the sources, a congenial climate has been prevailing this year in Khulna division for smooth growth of Aman and other vegetables. The pest attack in the Aman fields was at a minimal.
This year many low lands have also been brought under Aman cultivation, the farmers of Khulna and Jessore districts, said. Easy availability of seeds and low cost of irrigation and fertiliser popularized Aman cultivation. Farmers expect to start harvesting the crop from the next week in full swing.
The AED sources said a total of 7, 64,175 hectres of land brought under Aman cultivation with production target 18, 33,512 tones paddy. Of them 1,00,500 hectres land in Khulna with production target 2,21,530 tones,1,07,475 hectres in Satkhira with production target 2,74,572 tones, 1,04,000 hectres in Bagerhat with production target 1,85,720 tones, 1,37,600 hectres in Jessore with production target 3,50,760 tones, 29,700 hectres in Narail with production target 69,900 tones, 47,300 hectres in Magura with production target 1,19,910 tones,90,100 hectares in Jhenidah with production target 2,32.340 tones,75,500 hectres in Kustia with production target 1,94,200 tones,24,900 hectres in Meherpur with production target 63,770 tones and 47,100 hectres of land brought under Chuadanga with production target 1,20,810 tones of paddy.
Additional Director of Khulna Agriculture Extension Department told the Financial Express that favourable climatic condition, adequate supply of necessary fertilisers and pesticides are the reasons behind the bumper production.
The Bangladesh Krishi Bank and other government, non government banks had disbursed adequate crop loans to make the paddy cultivation a complete success in the region. Local people said that the production would exceed of the target this year.
Jessore
A BSS report from Jessore adds: Farmers in 10 districts of the south- western region are now hopeful of having a bumper production of transplanted Aman (T-Aman) paddy during the current season.
Officials of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said blooming period of the crop has now ended and the early variety Aman paddy fields are ready for harvesting.
Farmers and common people of the region are almost sanguine about a bumper yield as the paddy plants grew well in a favourable climatic condition.
The farmers expect to start harvesting the crop from the second week of Bangla month of Agrahayan in full swing.
DAE sources said a total of 7, 64,175 hectares of land were brought under Aman cultivation with a production target of 18, 33,512 metric tonnes of rice.
Of the total, 1,37,600 hectares of land with the production target of 3,50,760 tonnes were brought under cultivation in Jessore, 29,700 hectares with 69,900 tonnes in Narail 47,300 hectares with 1,19,910 tonnes in Magura, 90,100 hectares with 2,32,340 tonnes in Jhenaidah of 75,500 hectares with 1,94,200 tonnes in Kushtia, 24,900 hectares with 63,770 tonnes in Meherpur, 47,100 hectares with 1,20,810 tonnes in Chuadanga, 1,00,500 hectares with 2, 21,530 tonnes in Khulna, 1, 07,475 hectares with 2, 74,572 tonnes in Satkhira and 1, 04,000 hectares with 1, 85,720 tons in Bagerhat district.
