NILPHAMARI, May 20: Harvesting of Boro has just started in the district. Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said super bumper production of Boro was being expected here this year despite an acute shortage of seedlings during the plantation period.
This year, hybrid Boro cultivation target was 31,579 hectares of land with production target of 1,51,263 tonnes and High Yielding Variety (HYV) in 48,456 hectares of land to produce 1,82,556 tonnes of paddy.
However, an acute shortage of farm labourers prevails in the district now as local labourers are working in the southern region of the country where Boro harvesting had started earlier.
