Bumper jute production expected in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH, July 27 (BSS): Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) of Panchagarh district is expecting bumper jute production in all five upazilas of the district in the current season.
The DAE sources said that 10,200 hectares of land have brought under jute cultivation in the district this year with a production target of 21,750 tons.
Of the total land, 8,000 hectares of land have been brought under cultivation of Tosha variety and 2,200 hectares of land under local variety of jute.
DAE sources said, 3,000 hectares of land have been brought under jute cultivation in Sadar upazila, 2800 hectares in Debiganj upazila, 2500 hectares in Boda upazila, 1000 hectares in Atowary and 900 hectares of land in Tetulia upazila.
The farmers have started harvesting of jute with great enthusiasm. The farmers are happy to see bumper production of jute and fair price. Newly harvested jute is being sold from Taka 1,500 to 1,600 per maund in different hats and Bazars in the district.
Deputy Director of DAE Nazrul Islam attributed the bumper jute production to adequate supply of seeds and fertilizers, favorable climate condition and absence of pest attack.
