Bumper Kalizira rice production in Gopalganj

GOPALGONJ, Dec 14: The experimental cultivation of Kalizira rice in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila of the district sees a bumper production this season.
At least 20 bighas of high land was brought under Kalizira cultivation at Char Sonakair under Gopalganj Sadar upazila and farmers are now very busy in harvesting the paddy due to bumper production.
Kabir Mollah of village Char Sonakair told this correspondent that he cultivated Kalizira paddy on 2.50 bighas of land spending Tk 4,000 per biga, which yielded 20 to 21 maunds per bigha. The price of his produce is about Tk 70,000 at present market rate.
Department of Agriculture Extension (Gopalganj) Deputy Director Sakyet Hossain said there is good prospect of Kalizira paddy on high land in the district if farmers are encouraged. After fulfilling local demand, the rice can also be exported.
