Bumper onion production likely in Tangail

TANGAIL, Jan 11: Onion cultivators of twelve upazilas of the district are expecting a bumper production of the crops this season.   
A total of 934 hectares of land have been brought under onion cultivation with a production target of 9340 metric tonnes of onion, DAE Tangail sources said.
According to sources of the Department of Agricultural Extention (DAE), Tangail, 160 hectares of land have been brought under onion cultivation in Tangail sadar, 10 hectares in Bashail, 40 hectares in Kalihati, 30 hectares in Ghatail, 110 hectares in Nagorpur, 90 hectares in Mirzapur, 30 hectares in Modhupur, 270 hectares in Bhuapur, 40 hectares in Gopalpur, 44 hectares in Shakhipur,35 hectares in Delduar and 75 hectares in Dhanbari.
Solim Uddin, an onion farmer of village Dhalan Shippur under sadar Upazila, said he has cultivated onion on three bhigas of his land and he is expecting a handsome profit.
Shariful Islam, sub assistant of DAE, Tangail, said this year onion has grown very well under the observation of DAE, Tangail. Favourable climatic condition also helped the farmers.
