Bumper pineapple output likely in Rangamati

RANGAMATI, May 25 (BSS): Farmers of the district are expecting a bumper production of pineapple this year, thanks to favourable weather and availability of agri-inputs in time, officials said.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officials said a total of 1,970 hectares of land in the district have been brought under pineapple cultivation in the current season.
A farmer can produce 25 tonnes of pineapple on one hectare of land spending Taka 147,000 and can earn profit of Taka 13,000, said DAE deputy director Noresh Chandra Baroi.
Officials also said fruits traders from different parts of the country, particularly Dhaka, Chittagong and Khulna, have thronged the town to buy pineapple.
