Bumper production of Aush paddy expected

BARISAL, Aug 25 (UNB): Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) is expecting a bumper production of Aush paddy in 10 upazilas of the district during the current season.
Aush cultivation already started in the district last week with a target to produce 96,368 tonnes of paddy from 39,342 hectares of land in the district.
DAE assistant director Shudir Ranjan Shill said a scheme has been taken up to cultivate high yielding variety Aush on 13,490 hectares, hybrid on 71 hectares and local variety on 25,781 hectares of land.
Farmers have already cultivated 20 per cent of the targeted land and the rest would be cultivated soon, sources said.
According to the DAE, the farmers would get at least 4.5 tonnes hybrid paddy, 3.6 tonnes HYV and 1.8 tonnes local variety from per acre of land this season.
