NILPHAMARI, Apr 19: Farmers of Dimla and Domar upazilas out of six upazilas of the district are expecting a bumper production of green pepper this season, harvesting of which has just started and it would continue till the rainy season.
In the meantime the price of green chilli has come down sharply in the local markets across the district. The price of green chilli which was sold at Tk 60 per kg some days ago has come down to Tk 20 per kg in the wholesale market and the price is expected to decrease further.
Sources said green chilli is commercially cultivated very extensively in the upazilas of Domar and Dimla of the district. The wholesalers transport those to Dhaka, Khulna and other areas of the country.
A portion of ripened chilli is dried up by the wholesalers for preservation and better price.
DAE sources said the target of chilli cultivation in the district is in 2562 hectares of land to produce 3460 metric tonnes at an average of 1.35 metric tonnes per hectare.
