NILPHAMARI, Dec 29: A bumper production of Maize is expected in Nilphamari district this year as the climate is favourable and the farmers are becoming adept in cultivating the crop gradually. The cultivation of maize is also increasing year on year in the district.
In this year DAE has set the target to cultivate maize in 6458 hectares of land to produce 46882 mt of wheat at an average production of 7.15 mt per hectare.
DAE sources mentioned that in the last year maize was cultivated in 5757 hectares of land which is 15 per cent less than the current year. The area of cultivation of maize is increasing because more and more shoal land areas are being used under maize cultivation every year.
Sources said shoals which are sandy were out of any crop cultivation so long where maize is being cultivated enthusiastically and the production is also found satisfactory.
