GAIBANDHA, Jul 20 (BSS): A bumper production of sugarcane planted in 2012-13 season is expected at eight sub- zones of Rangpur Sugar Mills Limited (RSML) as the plants of the sugarcane have grown well on the land.
According to sources, the mill located at Mohimaganj area under Gobindaganj upazila and the only heavy industry in the district, had been turned into a non profitable firm due to different reasons.
Though the mill went to sugar production every year, it was not operated as per expected time for lack of supply of required quantity of sugarcane from the mill zone areas causing losses for the mill for years.
To run the mill properly and to turn it into a profitable firm in near future, the authorities concerned took many initiatives including high quality seed distribution, subsidy, and loan disbursement on easy terms for the growers.
Besides, the officials and the staff of the mill conducted different motivational and monitoring programmes to the farmers of the mill zones during the plantation season to bring more land under sugarcane farming to attain the cherished goal. In response, about 5500 farmers of sub-zones areas of the mill have cultivated sugarcane on 7,040 acres of land in 2012-2013 plantation season and they are expecting bumper production.
