Bumper production of T-Aman in Thakurgaon

THAKURGAON, Dec 10 (BSS): The bumper production of T-aman (Transplanted Aman) paddy brought the smiling face of the farmers here during the current season.
The harvesting of T-aman is almost over, only some late varieties are left in the field. At the moment farmers are busy to harvest the late varieties.
In the village markets abundant paddy is now available. A paddy trader of Khochabari hat under Sadar upazila Bachchu Miah said a maund (40 kg) of coarse varieties are selling at Taka 600 to 650, the medium varieties are selling at Tk 700 to 750 and the fine aromatic varieties are selling at Tk 1,000 to 12,00 per maund.
Regarding price the farmers are happy but in some areas the attack of pest specially Brown plant hopper (commonly known as current poka) damaged paddy fields of some farmers. Besides this a disease called Bactarial leaf blight also attacked some paddy fields.
Farmer Jainal Abedin of Dakshin Batina (Baman para) village under the same upazila said his one acre of paddy was partially damaged by the attack of Bacterial leaf blight.
But the disease could not be controlled. He further said that he would get only one fourth of the expected production. Another farmer of Dakshin Batin (Birpara) village Abdul Gaffar said that his 0 .50 decimals paddy field was attacked by Brown plant hopper and he might get only one fourth of the expected production.
Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer of DAE Didarul Islam said the officials of the Department visited the pest attacked paddy fields and suggested the farmers to spray particular pesticide.
