Bumper production of tomato in Panchagarh

NILPHAMARI, July 22: Farmers of Panchagarh district are successfully cultivating summer tomato in their high lands for the last few years. But this year tomato cultivation, both in quality and quantity, has increased substantially.

Sources said they have commercially cultivated tomato in thousands of hectares of land and produced huge quantity of it. Traders across the country are coming to Panchagarh to purchase tomato from there and take them to their respective places, the sources added. Farmers are carrying the tomatoes in thousands of rickshaw vans to Panchagarh district town for selling those to the wholesalers.

The sources further said tomatoes worth Tk 100 million are likely to be produced in the district in this season. At present tomato is being sold at Tk 350-400 per maund.
