Bumper sales of Tangail saris expected

For all occasions Bengali women's preferred dress is sari. And handloom saris have a special appeal. In that market segment, Tangail saris have carved their own niche.
Tangail sari has been reinvented, anew, both in weaving and wafting style, as well as in design. At the peak of the Eid season, the weaver villages are humming with activity now. But this year," three-pieces" have added to the melee, according to a news agency.
Weavers are expecting bumper sales of saris, this year. It is expected that more than 1.5 million pieces of saris will be woven and revenue will shoot past Taka 700 million mark.
It is estimated that there are 64,100 handlooms in the district. And 30,000 people are engaged in this profession.
Buyers are flocking to remote hamlets to buy the coveted sari. Besides, they are also being sold in the malls across the country.
Tangail saris are being also exported now. Show rooms across the world are displaying this unique sari. They are being exported to the USA, UK, Italy, Australia, Canada, Malaysia, India and the Middle-East.
Catering to the variety of taste and purchasing power of customers, weavers have woven saris of different designs and prices. These include Baluchuri, Handy Block, Jute Katan, Cotton, Half Silk, Jamdani Silk, Muslin Embroidery, Jamdani, Dhupian and Jhalak Katan.
