Bumper vegetables production expected in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Oct 31: An extensive plan has been taken up by the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) to cultivate winter vegetables in all the seven upazilas in the district during the current season.
Office sources said a total of 6391 hectares of land would be brought under the cultivation programme this year with the production target of 12,730 metric tons of vegetables.
The vegetables include brinjal, radish, tomato, cauliflower, cabbage, bean, carrot, balsam, apple, cucumber, ladies finger, turnip, parble, lal shak and palang sak.
The farmers are showing keen interest in farming vegetables this year as they did get economic benefit in previous years.
In some of the places, the farmers have already started to cultivate vegetables on their land with the hopes of getting high profit from the farming.
M. Moniruzzaman, a farmer, at Barobaldia village under Sadar Upazila in the district said he cultivated vegetables including brinjal, radish, cauliflower, cabbage on his land this season and is putting his best efforts to succeed the cultivation of the varieties to earn money side by side with meeting his family demand.
To raise vegetables production and to make the cultivation a grand success, the DAE officials are also conducting training in field level to the farmers and providing latest agro technologies to them.
Meanwhile, early varieties of vegetables have started to come in the market and the customers are buying those with much enthusiasm despite high price.
