Bumper wheat output in Gopalganj

GOPALGANJ Mar 17: A bumper wheat output has been achieved in the district in the current season.
According to Agriculture Extension department, a total of 6,560 hectares of land had been brought under wheat cultivation with the production target of 13,344 tonnes in the district this year.
Of the five upazilas in Gopalganj district, Maksudpur is an ideal place for wheat cultivation. Around 3600 hectares of land of the upazila had been brought under wheat cultivation in the current season.
Other four upazilas are Kasiani, Tungipara, Kotalipara and Gopalganj Sadar that had brought some 1960 hectares of land for wheat cultivation.
Santosh Kumar Bhola, a farmer at Muksudpur Upazila, told The FE that smooth water supply and favourable weather boosted wheat production this year.
Biplob Kumar Saha, an agricultural official in Gopalgonj, said smooth supply of water and agri-inputs, such as fertilisers and pesticides, boosted wheat production in the district.
