Bumper wheat production expected in Khulna division

JESSORE, Mar 6 (BSS): Farmers and others concerned, including agriculturists are expecting a bumper production of wheat in the ten south-western districts under Khulna division the current season. The ten districts are- Jessore, Narail, Jhenidah, Magura, Kushtia, Chuadanga, Meherpur, Satkhira, Khulna and Bagerhat.
Additional Director of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Jessore region, ATM Momtazul Karim said that favorable climate conditions, adequate supply of necessary fertilisers and pesticides are the reasons behind the bumper production of wheat in the area.
Bangladesh Krishi Bank, other government and non-government banks had disbursed adequate crop loans among the farmers to make the wheat cultivation a complete success in the region.
DAE office sources said a total of 63,961 hectares of land have been brought under the cultivation in the area with the production target of 1,95,081 tonnes of wheat.
District wise wheat cultivation and production target follows as- 2,970 hectares of land have been brought under the cultivation with the production target of 9,059 tonnes white in Jessore, 3,236 hectares with the production of 9,870 tonnes in Narail, 11,389 hectares with the production of 34,736 tonnes in Magura, 6,870 hectares with the production of 20,954 tonnes in Jhenaidah, 15,738 hectares with the production of 48,001 tonnes in Kushtia.
