Saturday, 8 November 2014
Security agencies investigating the Burdwan blast case in West Bengal are believed to have made major breakthroughs following the arrest of key suspect Sheikh Rehmatullah alias Sajid. Described as the "mastermind of the Burdwan terror module" by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Sajid is believed to be the chief of Jamaat-ul Mujaheedin Bangladesh (JMB). West Bengal police reportedly arrested the suspected Bangladesh national, who had a Rs 10 lakh bounty on his head, a couple of days ago. But a senior home ministry official said, “It was not announced for reasons related to investigation.” On Oct 2, an improvised explosive device (IED) went off in a house in Burdwan killing two suspected JMB militants. It also sparked fears of West Bengal having become a major terror hub. A huge cache of bomb making material was seized from the blast site. India warned Dhaka that bombs being assembled there were meant for terror strikes in Bangladesh, according to a news agency.
