Burdwan blast: Militants on both sides involved
Monday, 1 December 2014
Detectives are certain that militants of both Bangladesh and India have been involved in the October 2 Burdwan bomb explosion, a Bangladeshi delegation says after visiting India. Police’s Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Mahfuzur Rahman said: ‘There is nothing the 2 countries should blame each other for. There is no confusion that militants of India and Bangladesh were involved in Burdwan incident.’ The 7-member Bangladeshi delegation returned home on Suinday. Led by Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch Joint Secretary Monirul Islam, the Bangladesh team visited West Bengal’s Burdwan town during their India visit at the invitation of National Investigation Agency (NIA). A powerful bomb exploded in a house in Khagrhagarh locality of Burdwan on Oct 2, killing two suspected militants. Dhaka and Delhi agreed to work together to combat terrorism after information on Bangladeshi militants’ link to the blast was revealed. Following the agreement, a 4-member NIA team, led by its Director General Sharad Kumar, visited Dhaka and held several rounds of discussion with Bangladeshi detectives, according to bdnews24.com.
