Bureaucrats obstruct repealing vested property act: Suranjit

Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Suranjit Sengupta said bureaucrats were creating hindrance in repealing the black law of vested property act, reports BSS.
"Keeping the vested property act alive, the most heinous law that violate human rights, none can claim themselves as democratic party," he said while addressing a discussion at Mukti Bhaban in city's Paltan area Friday morning.
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Parishad organsied the discussion marking the International Human Rights Day-2010 with its president Abdul Huq Sabuj, also publicity secretary of city Awami League (AL), in the chair.
Awami League Presidium Member and former state minister for planning Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir and general secretary of Dhaka City AL Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, among others, spoke.
Suranjit Sengupta, also advisory council member of ruling party, said the situation of human rights in the country has improved to a great extent during the last two years as deaths in crossfire is not happening now.
The government, he said, has achieved an excellent success in enacting time befitting law for constituting an effective Human Rights Commission and implemented it successfully by appointing an able chairman.
He pointed out that the commission has been empowered to interfere even in the armed forces if any violation of human right is taking place there.
About politics of hartal, the veteran parliamentarian said, "None can create anarchies in the name of democratic rights. Political parties should discard the bad practices being carried out in the name of democracy."
