Buriganga death toll now at 16

NARAYANGANJ, April 4 (BSS): The death toll rose to 16 in the Buriganga river trawler capsize at Aliganj Ghat in South Keraniganj with the recovery of another five bodies from the river on Saturday.
Four of the deceased were identified as Samad, Kajol, Jhantu and schoolboy Habib. All of them are inhabitants of Lalbag area in the capital city.
Divers of Fire Service and Civil Defence recovered the bodies on Saturday morning, said Momtaj Uddin, deputy director of Narayanganj Fire Service.
The trawler was coming from Beltali of Chandpur with about 70 to 80 passengers on board. It capsized in the river after being hit by a sand-laden bulkhead on Thursday. Most of the passengers managed to swim ashore or were rescued while several others went missing.
