Bus runs over 2 in Sirajganj

Two women have died after being run over by a bus in Raiganj Upazila in Sirajganj district. Two other persons were injured in the accident on the Sirajganj-Bogra highway in Sholo Mile area around 4:15am on Tuesday, said Hatikumrul highway police outpost Sergeant Iqbal Hossain. The dead were identified as Samina Chowdhury Ripa, 44, wife of Joypurhat’s Akkelpur municipality mayor Alamgir Kabir Badsha, and their domestic assistant Rajani, 14. A Dhaka-bound bus, coming from Joypurhat, was stranded on the highway due to technical fault, Sergeant Hossain said. Passengers got down from the bus and stood around it. A speeding truck rammed into the bus, pushing it forward. Four passengers waiting by the roadside were crushed under the bus. Ripa and Rajani died on the spot. Police seized both the vehicles after the accident, Hossain said, according to bdnews24.com.
