Bus-truck collision near Jamuna Bridge kills 9

Nine people, including a woman, were killed and 20 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck near the Jamuna Bridge connecting road in Kalihati Upazila under Tangail Sunday. Police said, a Sirajganj-bound goods-laden truck from Dhaka rammed into a Dhaka-bound bus, coming from Naogaon at Shalla at noon, killing its nine passengers. Police rescued 20 injured passengers of both the truck and the bus with the help of the local people, and got them admitted into Tangail General Hospital. Later, two of the injured were shifted to Dhaka "in critical condition". Five of the deceased were identified as Insan Ali (25), superviser of the bus, helper Zakir Hossain (35), Abdul Mannan (25), Hosne Ara Begum (70), and Abdul Hannan (20). —UNB
